A house with spectacular views across Cornwall & Devon
This garden was one of my favourite projects as it sits on the Devon and Cornwall border near Tavistock and has spectacular panoramic views across both Devon and Cornwall.
As with most of my projects in Cornwall this garden was on a steep slope and therefore the challenge was to make as much use of the garden as possible in a practical and aesthetic way. The client also requested a planting scheme with lots of bold and hot colours such as reds, yellows and oranges. This garden was also in a countryside setting and therefore the materials and hard landscaping structure had to retain a natural country feel.
Taking all of the above into account I divided the garden into 2 levels with the bottom level providing large terraced beds that I could fill with plants and colour and the 2nd level including not 1 but 2 level areas for seating/dining. Timber was used for cladding the terraced beds, creating a decked area on the upper level along with a mini pergola and raised bed and balustrades to ensure the garden was safe to walk around. Paving was used on the upper level and in a colour that was sympathetic to the house.

The clients are particularly pleased with the planting scheme that has turned a rather boring green country garden into a riot of colour, shape and wildlife activity.
